Excerpt From: Shoulda Stayed In Bed

Can Serena's day get any worse?

Serena was having a bad day-

No hot water in her shower, her toaster burned her toast, she got a run in her nylons, had a flat tire on the way to work, got stopped by a freight train, then got a ticket for speeding. All of that made her so late for work so her boss yelled at her, then she had to deal with a rude customer, wound up skipping lunch.

Going home she was tired but she had to stop she was low on gas and groceries. She bought a great steak and a bottle of wine. Her door stuck and she had to fumble to get the door open while holding her shopping bags, she slipped on something wet on the floor and looked down and saw blood, and feet sticking out from behind her counter.

This book is still in the early stages but here’s a rough excerpt:

Serena froze for a timeless moment, unable to process what she was seeing, unable to react, unable to breathe. Her reactions returned with a vengeance as she opened her mouth in an involuntary scream, a scream that never happened as a hand came over her mouth and she felt a strong body behind her. She was pulled hard back against that body. It felt solid and she was aware of a faint smell of sweat. She felt a scratch of whiskers and felt the warmth of his breath as he whispered roughly in her ear.

"If you want to live, keep silent." He said harshly. "Don’t scream or we’ll both wind up dead. Hell, if you can’t keep quiet, I may kill you myself."

Without giving her a chance to even nod at his orders, he dragged her out the door and down the steps. She was too stunned to struggle at first, not even paralyzed with fear, just plain shocked. As the realization of what was happening hit her, she began to fight. The summer before she had taken a course in basic self-defense but it was still pitifully easy for him to subdue her, even with one hand over her mouth. He dragged her towards her shed. It wasn’t locked so it was a simple matter for him to drag her inside.

"I need you to be quiet." He told her again. "There are dangerous people in that house."

She nodded against his hand and he moved it, but only a fraction of an inch, she knew that at the first hint of a scream, that hand would be back over cutting off her chance of calling out for help.

"Who are you?" She asked quietly.

"You don’t need to know that, not yet." He replied tersely.

"Who killed that man?" She asked.

"I did." He said bluntly.

That starts the adventure, they take her car and dump it, steal another car, then a motorcycle. They are followed by bikers and cops, Take a boat across the lake, hike, and borrow some horses—and all this time she’s wondering if she’s with a good guy or a bad guy.

Then they manage to get in a plane crash and wind up stranded, until they hop a freight train.

Along the way, she finds out who this man is, and why someone wants to kill her. They evade the police and the bad guys, and have some wild, some would say kinky, sex, and, of course, fall in love.
